Thigh Liposuction Overview

Thigh liposuction is becoming an increasingly popular cosmetic surgery procedure.  One of the areas on the body that people most often want to change is the legs.  Once such procedure, called thigh liposuction, helps people create the types of legs they are hoping for.  Legs are often a problem area in weight loss, especially around the thigh area.  Some people seem to be born with just naturally big thighs, with excess fat in that area.  Too often, exercise and diet does not remove fat from that trouble area.  With that being the case, one of the solutions to removing that excess fat comes from thigh liposuction.  Thigh liposuction is a safe procedure that removes excess fat from your legs and should give you that look you have always been hoping for.  With that improvement to ones legs, it is hopeful that self esteem issues can be resolved and self confidence can be restored.  Like all major operations, make sure to talk with your doctors and family members before undergoing a procedure like this.

What Is Thigh Lipo?

Thigh liposuction is a procedure where the excess fat in your thigh area is removed.  This should help change the shape of your legs, and by doing this, achieve the goal of better looking legs for the patient.

If you also have excess fat in the back of the knees, or running down the calves, thigh liposuction is often partnered with removing the fat in those areas as well.  This keeps the legs from having bulges in certain areas, and gives the legs a crisp, uniform look.  Many times when people want to know about liposuction for the thighs, the really specific procedure they are looking for is inner thigh liposuction.

Thigh Liposuction Procedures

A typical thigh liposuction procedure is going to remove the excess fat from the thigh area.  In inner thigh liposuction, incisions are made into the thigh area.  These incisions are where the fat is going to be sucked out of the body from.  To suck the fat out, a cannula is used.  A cannula is a device that is connected to a small pump, that when it gets inserted into the small incisions, sucks out the excess fat.

There are different methods to get the fat ready for removal out of the body.  Some liposuctions use ultrasound, others a shot to help liquefy the excess fat, and some doctors surgically remove the fat.  Your doctor will be able to tell you all the benefits and risk factors of each type of liposuction, and come up with the best solution for you.

For thigh liposuction, local anesthesia is probably going to be required.  This will make your leg numb and the removal of fat out of that area possible.  Local anesthesia does not have the health concerns that knocking someone out for full blown surgery has.

Like I stated above, often thigh liposuction will have to be paired with removing fat from other parts of the leg.  This assures you will have smooth looking legs that do not look terrible due to bulges of fat in certain areas.

Important Thigh Liposuction Information

Thigh liposuction procedures often need to be paired with other types of cosmetic surgery.  After losing the fat in the thigh area, you may be left with excess skin, which could easily mess up the look you are going for with your legs.

To combat the excess skin, thigh liposuction is often paired with a leg, butt, or thigh lift.  This will help remove the excess skin from your body, as well as give you the shapely legs you were hoping for.  Pairing thigh liposuction with other cosmetic surgeries give you the entire lower body look you have wanted, but will cost extra.  Also any time you are performing more surgeries to the body, there can be increased risk factors.

Inner Thigh Lipo Recovery Time

Recovery time of thigh liposuction will depend on the amount of fat removed and if you paired thigh liposuction with any other type of cosmetic surgery.  You should plan on returning to full strength in about six weeks after thigh liposuction.  Before returning to full strength, make sure you take it easy on your legs, that way you do not the amount of time it takes to recover.

You will of course be bandaged up, and have swelling and bruising in that area.  Compression garments are worn to reduce the swelling, and help with recovery time.  It is also encouraged that you avoid sitting for long periods of time to help eliminate the stress in the operated on area.

Thigh Liposuction Risk Factors

There are not many serious risk factors associated with thigh liposuction.  You are going to have the obvious ones, such as bruising, swelling, and discomfort for a period of time.  There should be very minimal, if any, permanent scaring.

There are also small chances you can have an adverse reaction to the local anesthesia.  Other very rare risk factors include losing too much blood during surgery.

Thigh liposuction is certainly not for everyone.  If you do not want to pair thigh liposuction with other cosmetic surgeries, and run the risk of excess skin being in the thigh area, that this procedure is probably not for you.

It is also said that you do not normally see the full results of the operation to around six months after it takes place.  It takes this long for the body to adjust, the swelling to be completely healed, and for the full affects of the operation to come into play.  If you do not feel it is worth waiting this long, that thigh liposuction is also not for you.

Thigh liposuction is not an easy way to lose weight.  Often enough, doctors will not perform thigh liposuction on people who are a certain amount overweight.  Do not think of any type of liposuction as a way to get healthy, but rather use liposuction as a way to make minor changes to your body to create the look you have always wanted.

Overall, there are minimal risk factors to thigh liposuction, and it can be a great tool to remove the fat from a trouble area.  If you are healthy enough, and you think this is the right thing to do, thigh liposuction is a viable option to change the way your legs look.
