Fasting Weight Loss Introduction

Fasting weight loss is often been a very hot topic among people in the health community and the dieting community. Some see fasting as a serious health threat, others see it as a legitimate way to loose weight, and is a very safe process. Both areas of arguments make some good points, fasting weight loss can be a serious problem if done over a long time and basics like water and nutrients are forgotten. However, fasting has been around for a very long time, and many religions require or recommend fasting at certain points. This leads many people to believe that there are some health benefits to fasting, and there certainly might be. Fasting is certainly becoming more popular in the United States. This article is going to focus on fasting weight loss, and see if that is a healthy type of weight loss, a dangerous form of weight loss, or something in between.

A Word of Warning

The internet is a great source of information, and can really be beneficial in finding out about different weight loss techniques. However, the best form of weight loss or dieting is almost always going to be a healthy diet and exercise. You should also consult your doctor to make sure you are healthy enough to make radical changes to your diet. Your doctor might even have some great tips on dieting that may be beneficial to you in the long run.

Different Types of Fasting Weight Loss Programs

There are a few different types of fasting diets out there. They all claim to be relatively healthy when done over a short period of time. No matter what type of fasting weight loss program you use, you must remember to always drink plenty of liquids. The body can go days with out food, but not without water. Water does not have any calories, and if you are trying to loose weight fast, water is an ok thing to drink.  All fasting diets are going to remove food, for liquids, this is an important step, and one I cannot stress enough to follow.

Juice Fasting

One of the more popular types of fasting is juice fasting. The benefits of juice fasting are suppose to be detoxification of the body, so basically cleaning up your system, as well as loosing weight. Since juice fasting is going to give you nutrients, calories, and things of that nature, it is also suppose to help reduce the effects of fasting, such as hunger, dizziness, tiredness, and things of that nature.

Juice fasting should not be done with most of the store bought juice brands. They are normally loaded with sugar and calories, which defeats the purpose of this diet. The best results will come from juicing your own fruits and vegetables, so having a juicer, organic fruits and vegetables, and a good juicing recipe book is the best thing for this diet.

For clarification purposes, juice takes the place of food, so you are not going to mix juice and food with this diet. This is only a short term diet, and people have said they lost a couple of pounds a day on it.

Water Fasting

Water fasting is very similar to juice fasting, except for you change drinking juice with drinking water. This is going to have less calories since there is no juice, but it should give your digestive system a break, and detoxify the body. Water fasting claims to help loose more weight faster, since you do not have the calorie intake of other diets.

It is very important to drink plenty of water while water fasting so your body stays hydrated and does have some energy. Unlike juice fasting, you are going to be more prone to hunger, dizziness, being worn out, and being lethargic. If you feel to many of these symptoms, make sure you eat some food. Never stay on this diet to long.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting maybe be considered a little bit more safer than other types of fasting. Intermittent fasting is going to be eating normally one day, or even eating a little more than normal, than fasting the following day. This intermittent fasting is suppose to give the body the energy needed, and makes fasting the following days much easier.

The theory behind intermittent fasting is not only is it healthier, but it is a much more natural way to lose weight. The theory is that people in the old days would have a big meal, than since food was sparse, not eat the next day until another big meal could be prepared. They feel the body is set up this way, and that is why intermittent fasting is so popular.

Intermittent fasting should help loose pounds relatively quickly during those down periods of not eating. The challenge becomes, keeping those pounds off.

Conclusion

This is just a basic guide to some of the more popular types of fasting weight loss programs out there. I cannot stress enough the importance of consulting a doctor before trying something like this out. These are not permanent diet techniques either, they are a way to get healthier, detox the system, and loose a couple of pounds. Combing fasting with proper diet and exercise afterwords is a great way to keep the pounds off and prepare for a healthier lifestyle.
