Facial Liposuction Overview

One of the biggest misconceptions out there is that liposuction can only be done on the fatty stomach area.  Facial liposuction has become very popular for both men and women, and it a great opportunity for anyone to sculpt problem areas in their face.  Facial liposuction is not just about the removal of fat, but about creating that sculptured facial look you have always wanted.  Instead of using liposuction only as a way to lose weight in the stomach area; facial liposuction is now being used as a way to remove fat in the trouble areas of your face; creating the sculptured facial look many people want.  Many patients have even combined facial liposuction with other types of cosmetic surgery, such as face lifts, nose surgery, and eye lifts.

One of the biggest reason people get facial liposuction is to remove the access fat in the jaw and neck area.  Certain people just seem to be genetically inclined to have excess fat in the jaw area.  Facial Liposuction gives them an opportunity to get rid of that fat. 

Other areas of the face that normally get facial liposuction are under the chin, under the cheeks, and the area in front of the ears.  If those places are prone to excess fat, that facial liposuction could be a way to eliminate that problem.  Excess fat in these areas are often considered the hardest places on the body to eliminate the fat from. 

Just like in most other types of liposuction, small incisions are going to be made in the area(s) where the fat is being removed.  Once these incisions are made, a small piece of equipment called the cannula is inserted into the incisions.  The cannula is normally connected to a pump in major liposuction procedures, but due to the lower amount of fat being removed, it might just be attached to a syringe.  Facial lipo can also come from a variety of styles.

You may have heard of other types of liposuction such as Tumescent or Ultrasonic liposuctions.   These can also be used during facial liposuction procedures; they just remove the fat in slightly different way.  Tumescent liposuction uses a shot that liquefies the fat, while ultrasonic liposuction use sound waves to make access to the fat much easier.  Either way the fat is still going to have to be sucked out your body using a cannula. 

After the cannula sucks the fat out of your body, you should start to see great results.  The fat loss from the facial area should be permanent, and it should give you the look you were hoping for. 

Facial Liposuction is not a very long procedure, normally done in one appointment and is done as an outpatient operation.  Often a big worry with liposuction is the amount of time needed for the surgery, as well as the amount of time being knocked out by anesthesia.   With facial liposuction procedures, time is not a big issue.

However, one of the biggest issues you are going to be confronted with is recovery time.  As you can imagine, anytime you make changes to your facial area, recovery time is going to be an issue.  Unlike most liposuction procedures, the recovery time for facial liposuction is normally a few weeks at the earliest.  There will be some swelling and discomfort at first.

The cost of your facial liposuction is going to vary, depending on what needs to be done and the area or areas being operated on.  A normally facial liposuction costs in the area of $1,000 to $5,000.
