Ankle Liposuction Guide

Ankle Liposuction
For the complete look people are looking for on their legs, ankle liposuction is becoming a popular choice. When people think about liposuction, one of the last places they imagine getting it done at is on the ankles. But surprisingly, the ankles are a popular place to have procedures done at so the patient can create the look they always wanted with their legs. This occurs by eliminating the excess fat on the ankles. Ankle liposuction can be done on both men and women, but is primarily done on women looking for perfect legs. Diet and exercise is what most doctors recommend to get rid of the fat in trouble areas, however, I am not sure how easy it is to remove fat from the ankle area with any type of diet. I am not even sure if there are any good exercises to trim up and shape up your ankles. This leaves ankle liposuction as a way to remove that fat and get the legs you always wanted.
What is Ankle Liposuction
Ankle liposuction is a procedure that sucks out the excess fat from your ankle area. It is normally done on people who have “cankles” and the goal of the surgery is to create the beautiful legs you have always wanted. Like all plastic liposuction, ankle liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is done in hopes of eliminating any self-esteem and self-confidence issues the patient may have.
Like with other liposuction procedures, ankle liposuction cannot be done on everybody, and is not intended for people with health problems and people who are servery overweight. Diseases like cancer, poor circulation, and any type of heart condition also eliminate you from being able to have ankle liposuction. Ankle liposuction is a cosmetic surgery, not a good diet or weight loss plan.
The Ankle Liposuction Procedure
The ankle liposuction procedure is going to start by making sure you are an ideal candidate for the surgery. They are going to check and make sure there is enough fat in the ankle area to even have the procedure done, if there is not, enough fat, than you will not be able to get ankle liposuction.
Ankle liposuction can be a tough procedure to do, since the ankles and calves are hard areas to operate on. There are different ways doctors loosen up the fat cells in your body, including lasers, chemical solutions, sound waves, and many more. Many European clinics have been having great success on ankle liposuction by using lasers to help with the procedure. Your doctor is going to have his own individual method for loosing up the fat, so make sure to talk to him.
Once the fat in the ankle areas have been loosen, a small incision is going to be made in the ankle area. This incision allows for a device called a cannula to be inserted into the body. The cannula is attached to a pump, and you guessed it, is going to be used to suck out the loosened up fat from the body. This should remove the “cankles” or the excess fat from that part of your body, and help create the legs you have always wanted.
Risk Factors
Like I mentioned before, the ankles can be a very tricky area to operate on, and that is why they even have to check and make sure you have enough fat in that area. The biggest problem with ankle liposuction is the chance for bumpy skin in the ankle area, as well as unevenness in the area as well. There are always going to be this type of risk factor with any type of liposuction, but the more experience your doctor is, the lesser the chance that this becomes a problem for you.
Swelling, pain, and numbness in the area of the ankle are also going to be risk factors of ankle liposuction. Normally, swelling, pain, and numbness will be gone in about two weeks after the surgery, and the pain can easily be controlled with pain medication. However, this is always the risk factor of permanent nerve damage in the area which can be very unpleasant.
Recovery Time
Recovery Time is going to be a little longer with ankle liposuction than with other types of liposuction. This is because the ankle is a body part that has to support a lot of weight and is key to you being able to move. Bed rest immediately after the procedure should be a must, and compression garments need to be worn on the ankle to help with swelling, bruising, and to provide support.
After a week or two, you can start to do more and more things, but I would never rush back into things after an ankle liposuction procedure. The benefits of ankle liposuction can be undone if you do not take proper care of your body after the procedure. Bruising and swelling can take place, so make sure you take proper care and listen to your doctor's advice when it comes to the recovery time.
Conclusion
The cost of an ankle liposuction procedure can be pretty expensive when you add it all of the factors, such as surgery costs, anesthetic costs, hospital time costs, and surgeon fees. Make sure you weight all of the risk factors and the cost of ankle liposuction with the benefits of getting the procedure done. If you think the benefits are going to out weight those risk factors, and that the added self-esteem and self-confidence are worth having the procedure done, than it might be an option for you.

I had ankle/calf SmartLipo a week ago today. The information on this site has been very informative. The ankle area is very tender & delicate and it's true it takes longer to heal. I was pleased with the amount of fat that was taken out without bleeding. Much less than regular lipo I have had dons in the past. I had a small amount of drainage. It has been painful and I have had to take more time off work than expected. My dr said I could go back Monday & today is Wednesday & I want to keep resting for the rest of the week. Keeping my feet elevated feels the best. I'm wearing my supportive stockings and I do believe the pressure makes my legs feel better. My calves & ankles are slightly swollen, but I can already tell that I'm going to be very happy with the results. My feet only swelled the 1st day.
