A Guide to Liposuction Recovery

Liposuction Recovery
Liposuction recovery is not as painful of a process as people sometimes imagine. I think everyone remembers the early days of liposuction, and the accidents that happened, the scaring and bruising, and the long recovery times necessary after the process. This is not necessarily the case anymore. Liposuction can be done with a lot less pain, a lot less bruising, and with a lot less recovery time than in the past. Liposuction recovery is still a big deal, because no matter what people tell you, liposuction is a major procedure. What needs to be done before deciding on liposuction as an option to get rid of the fat in your body, is to look at all the positives and negatives that are going to come with the procedure. One of the things you are going to have to pay a lot of attention to is what is required after the liposuction procedure to fully recover, and how long it is going to take to recover. After carefully weighting all of those variables, if the positives outweigh the negatives in your mind, than liposuction might be a procedure you should look at getting.
Some Important Notes Regarding Liposuction Recovery
There is going to be a couple of variables that change how long your recovery time is going to take, and a couple of factors that effect liposuction recovery in general. The first is there are more than one or two types of liposuction techniques. Depending on the type of technique used, your recovery time is going to change. Some of the newer techniques, like smart liposuction, are going to have shorter recovery times than traditional cut and go liposuction procedures.
Liposuction can also be done on many different parts of the body. Depending on where it is done, that is all going to effect the liposuction recovery process. Arms and Legs are used more often than your neck muscles, those types of things make a difference.
A person's natural ability to recover is also going to effect the recovery process. For example, some people's genetics have them healing faster than normal, while others heal slower than normal. This is going to affect the liposuction recovery process. A word of caution however, even if you think you are a fast healer, listen to your doctor, do not risk ruining the benefits of the liposuction procedure.
Right After the Procedure
You are actually not going to feel much pain once the procedure is completed, and for the first 24 hours. This is going to be due to the anesthetic that was used. You should feel pretty comfortable. If you were just giving a local anesthetic, which only numbs the area being performed on, you can expect to leave about an hour after the procedure concludes. If you were giving a full dose of anesthetic to knock you out, the doctor is going to keep you for observation to make sure you react ok, but you should be able to leave that same day. Some swelling and bruising are probably going to start to form.
After the first Two Weeks
Your liposuction recovery should start to pick up steam after the first couple of weeks. You can now return to work, if you haven't already. You are still going to have some swelling in the area, but you got to remember you just had the fat sucked out of your body there. It can take up to a couple of months before the swelling fully stops. The pain should have lessened substantially, or even gone away by now.
You may still have numbness in the operated on area. Do not worry this is normal, and the feeling in that area should return pretty quickly. This is a normal side effect of liposuction. Somewhere in the 2-4 week range you can return to normal activities, such as exercise and other daily routines. If you do feel like this might be to hard on the operated area, take it slow.
Other Important Notes
Contrary to popular beliefs, you are not going to see the results of your liposuction procedure right away. It takes time for the swelling, numbness, and bruising to stop. In fact, you probably will not see the full effect of the procedure until around half a year after it has been done. It also takes time for the body to adjust to losing fat in that area as well.
You are also going to need to wear a post liposuction garment on the operated area. This garment is going to be made of a compression material, and will help reduce the swelling, bruising, and pain in the area. The garment is also going to protect the operated on area from infection. Do what your doctor tells you and wear the garment, even if you think it looks bad. Do not jeopardize the final results of the procedure for a fashion statement.
The First Two Weeks
During the first two weeks of the liposuction recovery, you can probably expect to feel some pain. The pain is going to depend on where, and how the procedure was performed. You are also going to have some bruising in the area, and probably swelling as well. You are going to feel pretty tender for the first two weeks. Pain pills might be prescribed if the pain is two bad, but the best cure is just rest, and not pushing the body to hard. Make sure you take the first few days after the procedure off from work.
Conclusion
This is the basic way most liposuction recoveries go. Your personal liposuction recovery experience might be a little bit different, but in general, you will see a lot of similarities to what is listed above. Like I also said, there are many different factors that are going to change how you recovery, like the type of liposuction, genetics, where the procedure is done at.
After doing all of your research, if you think the benefits of liposuction are going to out weight the negatives, than look at getting the procedure done.
